Eyre Peninsula Trip (Part 3 of 3)

Okay, okay I've taken ages to write the last chapter of our Eyre Peninsula trip, life (and travel) gets in the way of actual real work,😜 but I hope you enjoy it anyway. If you haven't already read Part 1 and 2 of this adventure, I recommend you do (of course)!

Day 11

Oh Perlubie Beach, we are going to miss you, its been fun, unfortunately we are on the move today, but we took our time to pack up as we weren't going very far at all. I even had time to take a medical call to chat with Miss C's Speech Pathologist about her swallowing issues which actually put me in a great mood because she is agreeing with me about sending her back to the ENT (this is a whole other story but trust me this is good and a long time coming).🙌.

After saying our farewells we headed to Streaky Bay and lobbed into the Discovery Caravan Park, mainly so we could get some washing done. The kids had a play on the jumping pillow which I must say I have a love hate relationship with. They are great to entertain the kids, but someone always seems to get hurt or the kids argue. This time was no different "he's knocking me over", "she's in my space", at least there weren't any injuries this time.

We have friends who live in Streaky Bay so after lunch and much needed showers and hair washing I took the kids to visit them and left Greg behind to get some work done in peace and quiet. They have 3 kids similar ages to ours so it was a perfect distraction for them and great for us to catch up, it's been so long since we've seen each other that we haven't actually even met each others kids. 😮

On the way back to the van we did a quick (hmmm use the term loosely) grocery shop, remind me never to take hyped up kids to what is supposed to be a quick shopping trip. Anyway we got there, chilled out for a bit, got organised and headed to the pub for a nice dinner with our friends. All the kids went absolutely crazy but they had a ball until eventually the wheels fell off as everyone was overtired, so we headed back, with plans for the next day.

Day 12

😲Wow, what a sleep!!!! You might not understand this if your kids are good sleepers, but I say again WOW!, Kids actually slept all night, and in their own beds. Ok to be fair Master J, is a very good sleeper but the twins, well I don't want to talk about it.

So on the recommendation of our friends we have moved today to a free camp spot called Speeds Point. It started off a bit windy but there are spots that are more protected we just wanted to amazing view! Now if you have little kids this might not be the best spot as it is very rocky and there are cliff faces, but great for exploring.

Miss C and I got to spend some time together while the other 3 attempted to do a bit of fishing. When they got back and the wind had dropped we went for a bit of a walk, collected some shells, the kids did some rock climbing and mummy and daddy even got some time to sit and relax with a glass of wine while the kids explored the rocks in front of our van. Miss C did cut her foot but not badly and the fun outweighed the pain.

To top off the fun and relaxation, our friends from Streaky joined us for a BBQ dinner and marshmallows on the campfire. The kids had so much fun running around together and exploring and making up their own games it was just a gorgeous day. We were rewarded as well with yet another spectacular sunset.

Day 13

We set off today with no real plan as to where we were headed, just as long as we were headed in the right direction towards home, we'd find somewhere to stop for the night. We took our time and did some sightseeing along the way which was good to break it up a bit for the kids and the drive. We still had a few tantrums which was frustrating as there was no real reason for most of them that I could understand but hey that's kids right?!?🙄

There was a lookout near Sceale Bay which had a lovely view and a long walkway right down to the beach which Greg took the kids down, but James got upset because he wanted to stay and do some fishing.

A little further along and we decided to head down some dirt roads to go exploring and also headed to Murphy's Haystacks for a look and some lunch. Wow, what an unusual and amazing place to visit. The kids had a ball checking out the rock formations and climbing all over them like they were mountain goats. We were also fortunate enough to meet the owner and buy some of his honey (yuuuuuuuuummmmmmmm)! If you are headed in this direction definitely stop and take a look.

Once we had checked out nearly every rock in the place (Master J is rock crazy), we eventually made a move not really knowing where we were going to stay the night, but stumbled across a little gem of a place. I wasn't sure at first and if you click on the link you can read why. The place was called Walkers Rocks and although our particular camp spot wasn't ideal the beach was fabulous. We had one of the most relaxing arvos we'd had all trip, gorgeous weather, kids playing in the water and making friends, daddy fishing and mummy sitting back with a nice cold drink and chilling on the beach. Unfortunately as night approached it got cold very quickly so after dinner we just stayed in the van and watched a movie together, before hitting bed early.

Day 14

Well an early night meant an early getaway which was great, and kids got to have a bit of a play with their new friend before we hit the road again heading for Darke Peak to see our friends again (who live there) that we had caught up with at Fowlers Bay. We decided in the end to stay at the Darke Peak pub rather than our friends farm as we were heading to the pub for dinner anyway which meant neither of us had to drive anywhere. Did you know they have a place to pull up your caravans out the back of it, which even has power and water to hook up to? Great idea and cheap too, unless of course, like us you spend a lot more at the pub. 😏

After lunch we headed to our friends place for a visit before dinner and the kids were in heaven. The girls were kept busy feeding and playing with a baby lamb, while Master J was in his element studying and bashing rocks. He even got given a box of various different ones to bring home, he couldn't believe it. Our friends actually have the most amazing rock collection you've ever seen and the public can go and check it out for themselves at his display room. Its called Minerals on Eyre and you can check out his page via this link.

Day 15

After a late night and lots of fun catching up with numerous people we haven't seen in years, its time to make the trek home and unfortunately finish this spectacular (albeit exhausting) trip. Master J was a bit sad to leave as he had struck up a friendship with the owner of the pub who I must say was great with the kids, she had them entertained all night.

The last leg of the trip was surprisingly easy. We had thought if the kids played up too much we would find somewhere to stay before heading home the next day, but we made it all the way home with only a few stops including our mandatory last day of holidays McDonalds lunch! We arrived home around 4pm which gave us time to start the fun of cleaning out the van and washing. 😒

Until next time guys, keep exploring and I hope you've enjoyed reading about our travels. Don't forget to follow us on Instagram and Facebook to see more adventures!

Thanks for reading.
